David Zimmerman is Counsel to Kim Winston’s Patent Practice Group. With an extensive background in software development, engineering, and telecommunications, Dr. Zimmerman brings a wealth of technical and legal experience to his practice. As a trusted advisor and counselor, Dr. Zimmerman strives to bring excellence to the service of his clients in all areas of intellectual property (IP) law, with particular emphasis on driving and realizing value from his clients’ patent assets.
Prior to joining Kim Winston LLP, Dr. Zimmerman held various positions in the patent world, including: associate at the law firm of Wolff & Samson and in-house counsel to Nielsen, the television audience measurement company. In addition, during his time with ThinkFire Services USA, Dr. Zimmerman was a consultant to numerous Fortune 100 companies on developing and monetizing their IP.
Prior to his career as a Patent Attorney and IP Professional, Dr. Zimmerman worked with a number of software startups in developing client-side and server-side software applications. Going back to his first career, and first love, Dr. Zimmerman performed High Energy Physics research at some of the top laboratories in the world. His time as an experimental physicist provided him with a deep and varied technical training that included: electronic circuit board design, analog and digital electronics, real-time programming, and mechanical systems design and development.
